It has been so long since I have passed on to you some good knitting ideas. Life can get so busy. I have not been knitting or reading any knitting patterns. I have a good reason. My new business is doing well and I am planning my retirement soon where I will knit all day!! :-) Not too soon, I am really enjoying my new venture.

Working from home has been such a change. It sure beats driving in traffic to work and I want to share this website called Your Executive Income Plan. This group has found a real business to run from home that works. Anyone can do it. I only started part time but I have started receiving a real residual income already.

I try to make time for my knitting as you can imagine. I want to tell you about a fabulous website for all you need. I hope you are all doing well with your knitting. I always like to see new knitting sites and free knitting patterns sites and last time I recommended this great knitting site with great knitting information. I hope you all got a lot of good information from that site.

While I would never give up my favorite hobby of knitting I have also become very involved in Scrapbooking. I have been scrapbooking for others and quite honestly I am really enjoying it as well as making some money. There is a great book that explains how to get going scrapbooking for profit. I am always on the search for great knitting sites and free knitting patterns. As I was searching I came across a great site I found with lots of knitting information. I especially like the link to the book they sell which has wonderful ideas for the more experienced knitter. I have wanted to try more adventurous knitting and this is chock full of great ideas with great photos too. I feel very inspired to adapt some of my existing knitting instructions to look like the great photos they have in their book. If you want to get inspired they have a sample of the book you can look at. This sample has a few very interesting outfits and I am already researching how to do some of the fancy stuff they are showing.

Go and take a look at this knitting pattern instructions site. The book is full of ideas and if you use your skills that you have built while adapting free knitting patterns you will be amazed at how easy it is to make some of this high-end knitting.

When searching for free knitting patterns you must remember that one of the most important things is selecting the right yarn. Most people spend time selecting just the right free knitting patterns but rush out and buy yarn without enough thought. "Selecting the right quality of yarn is one of the most influential factors of successful knitting. Essentially, the ultimate success or failure of your knitting project may very well depend on your selection of yarn. With this in mind, you will always want to consider who will be using your knitting product when selecting yarn for a project.

For example, if you are knitting a sweater for a man then lovely wool might be the right choice but if you are knitting some winter clothing for a baby that type of wool is probably not the appropriate choice.

When knitting for a baby, always use superwash wool because it allows you to machine wash and dry the yarn frequently. Also, always feel the yarn by rubbing it against your skin. If it feels rough to you, it will definitely feel the same way on a baby's sensitive skin."

Well, I though it was time for some more information about knitting. I was hoping to get a lot of people to contact me with some interesting free knitting patterns. I will compile a list of all the good knitting patterns as they arrive.

As the winter ends and the warmer weather arrives you might think that knitting is over for the year. There are so many interesting knitting essentials that are designed for summer wear. Small tank tops are especially cute but there are also great cardigans in the nice thin yarn that we see often lately, as well as the great evening shawls.

For those that want to get right to the free knitting patterns but need a refresher here it is. All knitting patterns including free knitting patterns use basically two stitches, the knit stitch and the purl stitch. Once you know these two knitting essentials you will be able to develop other knitting patterns which are just combinations or variations of these two free knitting pattern stitches.

The Knit Stitch
Once you have cast on, hold the knitting needle with the cast on stitches in your left hand. Push the point of the right knitting needle in between the front of the first and second stitches, pointing the knitting needle to the right to feed the point through the first stitch keeping it under the left needle. The knitting yarn should be at the back of the work. Loop the knitting yarn around the right knitting needle from back to front, letting the knitting yarn rest between the needles. Catch the knitting yarn on the end on the right knitting needle and pull it through the first stitch to the front of the work. Slip the old stitch off the left needle. The new stitch is now on the right needle. This is the beginning of your free knitting pattern. It is a good idea to keep the knitting yarn draped over the right forefinger, this keeps it to the back of the work too. Repeat this process until all stitches are on the right knitting needle. Now count the stitches, if they are all there, turn the right knitting needle around and put it in the left hand. This is the first row of the free knitting pattern. The knitting yarn will look like it is at the front and you will now take it to the back and start the second row of transferring stitches to the empty right needle.

The Purl Stitch
The Purl stitch will also be in free knitting patterns. Start with the knitting needle with the cast on free knitting pattern stitches in your left hand. Your knitting yarn will be hanging in front. Push point of right knitting needle into the front of the first free knitting pattern stitch from right to left. Wrap the knitting yarn around the tip of the right knitting needle, crossing over the two needles and hanging once again in front. Slide the right knitting needle down and back taking the new loop of knitting yarn from front to back, through the old stitch. Slip the old stitch off the left knitting needle. You now have a free knitting pattern stitch in purl on the right knitting needle and the yarn is hanging, once again, in the front. This is the knitting pattern called purl. Repeat this process until all stitches are on the right knitting needle. Now count the stitches to make sure you haven't dropped any and turn the work around putting the knitting needle with the stitches on in your left hand to start the next row.

Well, this is my attempt to teach you how to knit in readiness for any free knitting patterns you can find using the two basic knitting stitches but I have found that it is very hard to use a free knitting pattern from a few knitting instructions. I have found a great book on the subject, much more in depth than I can be. Gauge Counts
Even though you may want to jump right in there and start using a free knitting pattern it is a good idea to make a free knitting pattern gauge swatch. Don't skip this step, you will be sorry and it's not worth it. Half a stitch in one inch can end up making a big difference to the overall size of a sweater from a free knitting pattern. Always knit the swatch in the stitch that you will use. Obviously different free knitting patterns end up with different sizes so this matters. I always try to make my swatch big enough to make it a good test. I usually go for at least 4" x 4". Surround the swatch with a few rows of seed stitch knitting (knit or purl the opposite stitch of what you see facing you on odd number rows). Begin and end each row with four seed stitches as well. This stitch lies very flat and will help you measure accurately.
Needle size is much less important than tension with a free knitting pattern. Some people are loose with their free knitting pattern while others are tight with their free knitting pattern. This can also vary from day to day with some people. You can deliberately adapt your tension to create a different free knitting pattern look. Loose knitting for a light open feel and tighter knitting for a warmer feel. The tighter weave may feel stiffer while the more loose knitting piece may feel softer.
When you have finished the swatch let it sit for awhile. The yarn needs to relax and even out any tight spots. Now count the stitches and measure the rows per inch of free knitting pattern with a cloth tape. Remember to try a measurement in a few different places. Another way is to just calculate how big the total free knitting pattern swatch should be. If 16 stitches were cast on for the free knitting pattern and the gauge is 4st=1" the swatch should measure 4" (don't measure the seed stitches on each end). If you are too large, try needles that are a size smaller. Or if you are too small, try larger needles. Now you have finished you can start your free knitting pattern with confidence knowing that the product of your labors will actually find you!

Caring for your knitted items
When I have spent hours working on a sweater even from a free knitting pattern, I want to make sure it looks as good after a dozen washes as it did the day I was knitting it.
Here's how I care for the things made from my free knitting patterns. I always use luke warm water. I actually don't use detergent. I use my shampoo. I figure if it's mild enough but effective enough for my hair it must be good enough for my free knitting pattern designs. I add about a teaspoon. I swoosh the sweater around in the soapy water for a while then let it soak for at least fifteen minutes.
I drain the water, squashing the sweater into the bowl to get rid of the water. I rinse with luke warm water as many times as it takes until the water is clear. I am pressing the knitting against the sides of the bowl. I don't wring it tight as I don't want to lose the shape. I then lay the knitting on a flat clean towel. I roll the towel up with the desing from my free knitting patter inside and press a little. I find this gets rid of a lot of the water. If you have a mesh sweater dryer then lay it out carefully shaping the sweater to its original proportions so it remains as designed on the free knitting pattern. If you don't have one the you can just place the knitting on a fresh towel. This takes longer to dry and I suggest changing to a dry towel and flipping the sweater over so it dries quicker.
Obviously I never hang a sweater, not even on padded hangers as I find it stretches the shoulders with the weight of the wet sweater.
